Academic Transcript – What It Contains and When You Need It
An academic transcript lists every course a student completed, along with grades earned, credits attempted, and the cumulative CGPA or percentage for each semester. Universities issue it as the official record of academic performance.
Transcripts display CGPA in two ways. Semester-wise SGPA appears next to each term’s course list. The cumulative CGPA prints at the bottom or on the final page as the overall academic score. Some universities print percentage alongside CGPA, while others display only one format based on their grading system.
Transcripts alone don’t always satisfy application requirements. When an employer or foreign university needs percentage but the transcript shows only CGPA, a conversion certificate bridges the gap. WES evaluations also require sealed transcripts sent directly from the institution before processing equivalency reports.
Students should request multiple sealed copies during enrollment. Post-graduation transcript requests take 15-45 days at most Indian universities and involve re-verification fees that increase over time.
