SPI – Semester Performance Index

SPI stands for Semester Performance Index. Gujarat Technological University (GTU) uses SPI as its term for semester-level academic scoring, calculated by dividing total weighted grade points by total semester credits.

SPI works identically to SGPA. GTU assigns grade points per course, multiplies each by credit hours, totals the products, then divides by credits attempted. The label differs, but the credit-weighted formula stays the same.

SPI feeds into a clear conversion chain: individual SPI scores accumulate into CPI (Cumulative Performance Index), which then converts to percentage using GTU’s official multiplier. Most GTU students follow the SPI → CPI → percentage path for placement applications and transcript requests.
