Academic Calculators

Indian universities issue grades as CGPA or SGPA, but employers, scholarship portals, and admission forms ask for percentage. Pick the calculator that matches what your result card shows each tool below uses the correct formula for its conversion type.

Why Use University-Specific CGPA Conversion?

Indian universities issue grades as CGPA or SGPA, but employers, scholarship portals, and admission forms ask for percentage. The calculator you need depends on what your result card shows: use SGPA to Percentage if your semester result shows SGPA, CGPA to Percentage for your full degree record, or Marks Percentage if your result comes as raw marks out of a total. Each tool below uses the correct formula for its specific conversion type.

What Each Calculator Does

Your result card tells you which tool to use. Students often spend time on the wrong calculator because the names sound similar — this table removes that confusion.

If your university uses its own official formula — Mumbai University, VTU, GTU, SPPU, or JNTUH — the university-specific calculators give you the exact figure that matches your marksheet, not the UGC default.

Why Use University-Specific CGPA Conversion?

SGPA to Percentage

The SGPA to Percentage calculator converts your semester GPA to percentage when a job application or admission form asks for percentage but your result card shows SGPA. The formula differs by university  if your institution has published its own conversion method, use the university-specific calculator rather than the generic tool, because the generic formula won’t match your official marksheet.

Percentage to CGPA

The Percentage to CGPA calculator reverses the standard conversion. It applies when a university admission form asks for CGPA but you only have percentage from a board exam or an older marksheet. The reverse formula for the 10-point scale divides your percentage by 9.5  an 85% becomes 8.95 CGPA.

SGPA to CGPA

The SGPA to CGPA calculator converts semester performance to cumulative GPA without routing through percentage. Use it when a form asks for CGPA but you only have your latest semester SGPA, or when you need to see how one semester shifts your overall academic record.

CGPA Calculator

The CGPA calculator computes your cumulative CGPA from individual semester results. Input each semester’s grade points and credits and the tool returns the weighted cumulative figure. Use this when your marksheet shows semester-wise results and you need one overall CGPA number for an application.

Marks Percentage Calculator

The Marks Percentage Calculator calculates percentage from raw marks using (Obtained ÷ Total) × 100. Use it for school exams, university internal assessments, and any result that comes as marks out of a total rather than grade points.

Attendance Percentage Calculator

The Attendance Percentage Calculator calculates your attendance from classes attended versus total classes held. Most Indian universities require 75% attendance for exam permission — this tool tells you exactly where you stand before results are declared.

CGPA, SGPA, and Percentage — What Each Term Means

CGPA covers your entire academic record from the first semester to the current one. It updates every semester and appears on your final degree certificate. Employers, postgraduate admission forms, and official percentage conversion all use Cumulative Grade Point Average as the base figure.

SGPA covers one semester only. It resets each term and does not carry forward. Semester Grade Point Average tracks single-semester performance and determines eligibility for academic promotions or backlog rules — it doesn’t reflect your full degree standing.

Percentage is the 0-100 scale equivalent of your GPA. Indian employers, foreign universities, scholarship portals, and government recruitment forms require percentage because their evaluation systems were built around that scale. The conversion applies your university’s official multiplier to your CGPA or SGPA to produce the figure those forms expect.

Indian job applicationPercentage (converted from CGPA)
Postgraduate admission IndiaCGPA
Foreign university admissionCGPA on 10-point scale + percentage
Scholarship formsPercentage
Bank recruitment examsPercentage
Government job formsPercentage

The right percentage depends on which university formula applies to your marksheet. A VTU student reporting a percentage calculated with the CBSE formula overstates their figure by 3.5 percentage points — a mismatch that surfaces the moment a recruiter verifies the document.

Why Indian Grading Produces Three Different Numbers

The UGC introduced the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) across Indian universities to standardize grading. Under CBCS, each subject carries credit hours and grade points, and CGPA is the weighted average across all credits. This replaced the older percentage-based marking at most central and state universities.

Despite that shift, percentage remains the dominant metric for employment and admissions. Most recruitment portals, government job forms, and foreign admission offices still require percentage because their systems were built before CBCS existed. Conversion bridges what your marksheet shows and what an application form accepts.

The UGC issued a default multiplier of ×9.5 for the 10-point scale but permitted individual universities to publish their own formula. This is why the generic calculator gives 76% for an 8.0 CGPA while Mumbai University’s official method gives 67.8% for the same score. If your university follows its own conversion method, the university-specific calculators produce the correct figure. For questions about which scale your institution uses, the grading scales guide shows how to identify it directly from your result card.

FAQ

Q: What’s the difference between the SGPA and CGPA calculators?

The SGPA calculator converts a single semester result. The CGPA calculator works with your full academic record across all semesters. If your result card shows one semester’s performance, use SGPA to Percentage. If it covers your full degree, use CGPA to Percentage.

Q: My university has its own formula  which calculator should I use?

Use the university-specific calculator. Generic calculators apply the UGC default ×9.5 formula, which won’t match your official marksheet if your institution publishes its own method. VTU, Mumbai University, GTU, SPPU, and JNTUH all override the UGC default with institution-specific equations.

Q: Can I use the Marks Percentage Calculator for university exams?

Yes, if your result comes as marks out of a total. If your result card shows grade points rather than raw marks, use the CGPA or SGPA calculator  applying the marks formula to grade points produces a figure your university won’t recognize.

Q: I have my 12th board percentage how do I get CGPA from it?

Use the Percentage to CGPA calculator. Board percentage and university CGPA use different grading structures, so the conversion gives an approximate figure for cross-system comparison rather than an official equivalent.

Q: Which attendance percentage qualifies me for exams?

Most Indian universities require 75% attendance for exam permission. Some allow 65% with a medical certificate. The threshold varies by institution confirm your university’s specific rule before relying on a general figure.

If your university uses a specific conversion formula, the university-specific calculators give you the exact figure that matches your official marksheet rather than the UGC default. For questions about which grading scale your institution uses, the grading scales guide shows how to identify your scale directly from your result card.
